Editor’s Note: The following article was written by Eric Kocher, who was a Marine with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. Kocher served as key military advisor of the HBO miniseries “Generation Kill.” The former Marine chose to be an advisor to ensure the accurate portrayal of our Corps and the experiences of what the Marines of 1st Reconnaissance Bn. went through. The opinions expressed in this commentary are those of the writer and not The Scout newspaper.
The base theater hosted a sneak preview of the HBO miniseries “Generation Kill” July 13. This event was met with excitement and a large turnout which also included guest appearances from the actors and real-life Marines of the “Generation Kill” cast. Marines are probably the most anal retentive creatures on the planet, but beautiful nonetheless. Can we help it? Day one, we were instructed that even our shoe laces must be
laced left over right, no exceptions. Every detail throughout our day-to-day existence has a Standard Operating Procedure. This is the backbone of the Corps: Every action will have a purpose; every movement will be coordinated. It's what separates us from the Navy and the Army, sorry Air Force; you guys don't even compare. However, we do respect your chow. What does this mean for the people who made the HBO mini-series, “Generation Kill”, based on the book by Evan Wright?
